"The path towards achieving plastic circularity using enhanced producer responsibility (EPR) schemes"
To solve the global plastic pollution issue, policy makers, corporations and consumers show an increasing interest in transitioning from a linear to a circular economy. Extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes have proven to be an effective measure on this pathway since the 1990s mainly in Europe, the US and Japan. The implementation of EPR schemes can in fact trigger the required innovations in businesses to support the placing on the market of more circular-economy related products. It can also contribute to the development and improvement of waste and recycling industries. In particular, a number of substantial benefits to businesses can be identified as arising from a proper implementation of EPR schemes, from boosting their reputation, to ensuring their compliance with legislation, or leading to substantial cost savings. This presentation focuses on how companies can achieve plastic circularity benefiting from EPR schemes and how companies can help establish an EPR scheme.

Company Profile
PMI is leading a transformation in the tobacco industry to create a smoke-free future and ultimately replace cigarettes. We are focused on creating long-term value while minimizing the negative externalities associated with our products, operations and value chain. As PMI transforms its business, it knows that one of its key challenges is, and will continue to be, earning the trust of its stakeholders and society as a whole. PMI believes that to have any credibility or legitimacy, its purpose must be none other than to use its resources and creativity to develop and commercialize better alternatives for society and the environment, and ultimately to stop making and selling cigarettes as soon as possible.
